By the time he was 14, Anamul Khandokar was a labourer in a leather tannery in Dhaka working to help support his family. Forced to abandon his studies, he never lost his initiative.
Today Anamul is the proprietor of Simul Leather Products employing six workers producing wallets, handbags, jackets and belts. With a loan and support from Trust partner Bangladesh Youth Enterprise Advice and Help centre (B’Yeah), Anamul established his own factory.
In his early days as a labourer, Anamul dreamed of opening his own business and learned as much as he could about leather goods production. Now he is teaching his staff ‘the tools of the trade’ and providing employment.
Benefiting from a business mentor provided by B’Yeah, Anamul consults Syed Fakrul Hasn Murad, a textile engineer and university professor, for advice on new designs and marketing. His mentor uses his contacts to attract new customers and orders for Anamul’s business.
B’Yeah supports young entrepreneurs like Anamul with business training, loans, mentors and full access to the organisation’s local, national and international business support networks.
