Photo of Dr. Sri Ram and Mrs. Rajni SriramAs founders of an award-winning international business – Supreme Creations – and a highly successful education charity – The Wings of Hope, Dr. Sri Ram and Rajni Sriram recognise an effective organisation when they see one. That is one of the many reasons they choose to support The British Asian Trust.

Chairman of Supreme Creations, the world’s largest ethical manufacturer of environmentally friendly bags and packaging, Dr. Sri Ram sees immense potential: “The British Asian Trust is doing a great job at championing and harnessing the talents of the vibrant Asian community in the UK to address poverty and promote development.” Rajni Sriram agrees: “It is testament to The Prince of Wales and his great leadership to captivate the entrepreneurial and philanthropic efforts of our community and channel it towards good causes.”

The couple’s esteem for HRH The Prince of Wales and his initiatives inspired their support for the Trust, The Prince’s Trust and Business in the Community (BITC). Last year, Dr Sri Ram’s company was awarded as “The National Example of Excellence” – a highly competitive company award between 850 of the UK’s best companies - for its innovative green product development, and commitment to secure working conditions and creating sustainable Fairtrade communities at the company’s manufacturing base in Pondicherry, South India.

It was at the Clarence House awards ceremony where the couple forged a relationship with The British Asian Trust. They have subsequently supported several events hosted by the Trust including the popular charity cricket match at Lord’s last year.

The mission of their own charitable organisation, The Wings of Hope Children’s Charity, is to ‘Empower through Education’. The charity supports projects in the UK, India and Malawi, funding the free education of hundreds of children living in poverty, who have been orphaned or separated from their families.

The UK social enterprise project called the Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA) has worked with nearly 10,000 students to date, bolstering skills in communication, leadership and social ethic, where students engage in creative fundraising projects for their underprivileged counterparts overseas. Supporters of the charity include Sir David Jason, CEOs from Saatchi & Saatchi, Edelman, Tata Consultancy Services and senior members of the House of Lords.

With a thriving ethical business and a pioneering charity of their own, how do Rajni Sriram and Dr. Sri Ram find time to support The British Asian Trust? “In giving, you always receive,” says Rajni Sriram. “If you share and you give, you receive so much more in ways you never know.” For more about Wings of Hope, click here. Find out more about Supreme Creations here.
