Students at Orwell House at Swavesey Village College worked together to combat poverty in South Asia and the UK by raising £895 for The British Asian Trust.
Their generous contribution was presented to Trust Executive Director Hitan Mehta during a recent Celebration Assembly at the college in Cambridgeshire.
Holding bake sales, dress down days and sponsored events throughout the year, the students raised funds for the work of their chosen charity. Studies about Asia inspired the students’ support for the Trust.
“We are delighted to receive such amazing support from Orwell House,” said Hitan Mehta. “This donation will build better futures for people in the most disadvantaged communities in South Asia and the UK. We hope other schools will follow the lead of Orwell House and Swavesey College.”
Glesny Sheppard of Swavesey’s Orwell House said: “We enjoyed hearing about the work The British Asian Trust does and were delighted to hand over our cheque from the fundraising we have done throughout our year of 2010-2011.”
