Pakistan Flood Recovery Fund Launched

The worst floods in living history hit Pakistan last July creating one of the world’s most tragic humanitarian crises. Though the international media has moved on, the crisis remains and support for the long-term recovery of Pakistan is vital.

AyeshaHRH The Prince of Wales has established The Pakistan Recovery Fund in response to the on-going humanitarian effort essential to Pakistan in the wake of the floods. The Fund will support the recovery of communities in flood-affected regions in four key areas: homes, education, livelihoods and health.

The British Asian Trust is managing The Prince of Wales’s Pakistan Recovery Fund. With key expertise in the management and disbursements of grants in South Asia, the Trust will select effective delivery partners, high impact projects and tightly-managed programmes to ensure that donations make the greatest difference. The Trust is working in partnership with Knighton White, a philanthropy enterprise leading on the campaign.

“The floods have significantly hindered Pakistan’s development prospects,” said Asif Rangoonwala, Trustee of The British Asian Trust which works in Pakistan and three other South Asian countries. “In a country already gripped with socio-economic problems, the plight of the Pakistani people is getting worse. The Fund’s focus on the critical areas of education, livelihoods and health is right in line with the work of The British Asian Trust,” he said.

The Pakistan Recovery Fund seeks long-term, practical solutions that will transform the lives of flood victims, foster economic prosperity in the country and lead to sustainable approaches for averting similar disasters. Trust Director Hitan Mehta serves on the Fund’s International Leadership Team.
