Crowds at Manchester’s Mega Mela music festival this weekend plan to boogie their way to the world record for the biggest Bollywood-style dance.
Dancing to pop sensation Navin Kundra’s hit ‘Mehbooba’, they aim to beat the current record of 1,336 dancers set in Mumbai. As well as becoming official record breakers, each participant will be helping a good cause just by taking part. Rubicon will donate £5 for every participant to its nominated charity, The British Asian Trust.
Taking place at 2pm on Saturday 23 July, Rubicon’s record breakers will be taught a fun and easy Bollywood routine to perform in front of the watchful eyes of an official Guinness World Records adjudicator.
“Let’s try and break the Guinness Book of World Records at the Manchester Mela,” said Navin Kundra, a Trust Ambassador. “Join us along with Rubicon and The British Asian Trust where I’m going to lead a brave attempt with Ri Ri’s Dance Academy to break the world record for the most people doing a bollywood dance.”
Rubicon’s Adrian Troy said: “Rubicon wants to continue our tradition of bringing colour and vibrancy to the UK by putting on the biggest Bollywood dance the World has ever seen. The current record was set in Mumbai and we’re calling on Manchester’s Rubicon fans to rise to the challenge and help us break it.”
The free Mega Mela festival is billed as the biggest Asian arts and culture festival in the north of England.
Trust Ambassador Mumzy Stranger will also perform at the mela featuring dance displays, traditional arts and crafts stalls including henna; authentic regional food, a funfair, clothes stalls, street theatre performances and a kabbadi tournament.
