The American India Foundation (AIF) has united with The British Asian Trust and international mobile operator Lycamobile to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people in Chennai, India.
In its first agreement with a non-US organisation, AIF signed a strategic partnership document with The British Asian Trust on 8 June to provide skills and jobs through its Market Aligned Skills Training (MAST) initiative. AIF works to catalyse social and economic change in India.
The British Asian Trust works with co-funders like AIF to leverage philanthropic investments and increase the impact of charitable giving. As a partner in the initiative, AIF will not only match Lycamobile’s financial contributions, but also manage the programme delivery.
Trust Executive Director Hitan Mehta was in New York City, AIF’s headquarters, for the announcement. “The British Asian Trust is delighted to join hands with the American India Foundation and Lycamobile to enhance the livelihood options of some of Chennai’s most disadvantaged and under-educated young people. The three-year partnership will enable us to make a real impact at the grassroots level in Chennai.”
Dr. Sanjay Sinho, Chief Executive Officer of the American India Foundation, said: “AIF is proud to partner with Lycamobile and The British Asian Trust to take our proven MAST initiativ to Chennai. So far, we have already implemented MAST in eight states in India and trained nearly 57,000 young people. Support from Lycamobile and The British Asian Trust will enable us to now take this successful initiative to Chennai.”
