Results from an online poll by The British Asian Trust put education at the top of the most important causes to support in South Asia.
Almost 50 percent of respondents prioritised education, followed by health at 22 percent and employment at 13 percent.
Other causes selected were gender-related issues at 11 percent, disaster relief at 5 percent and youth-related issues at 2 percent in the online poll.
“It is encouraging that the results of the poll so closely reflect the Trust’s portfolio of charities and the pioneering work they are doing in the areas of education, health and livelihoods,” said Hitan Mehta, Trust Director.
Eight of the Trust’s 11 charities focus specifically on education. Four charities specialise in providing education to disadvantaged children: Developments in Literacy, Pakistan; Mumbai Mobiles Creches, India; Bharti Foundation Schools, India; and The Princes Charities in Burnley, UK.
Education is also the focus of Trust support for young people and women at Saath, Mann Deshi School and Barefoot College in India, and B’Yeah in Bangladesh.
