
The Satya Bharti School programme aims to make available free, high quality primary and secondary education to poor children in the rural areas of India. Additionally, the programme generates employment by hiring local talent as teachers and support staff in the school. The schools are built using the most environmentally sustainable building practices and aims to be a catalyst of social reform in the communuity where it is set up.
Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Mittal, was named the Philanthropist of the Year by the Asian Awards 2010 for his contribution through the Bharti Foundation in the area of education for disadvantaged children.
The Bharti Foundation won the Economic Times Corporate Citizen of the Year Award 2009-2010. The award seeks to honour the contribution to public good through commitment to critical social causes that influence the lives of thousands of disadvantaged Indians.
