Key Facts

  • Nearly 300 million children aged 7 and above are illiterate.
  • 42 million children between the ages of 6-14 do not attend schools.
  • 236 Bharti Foundation Schools have so far provided free education to about 30,000 children in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu. In full capacity these schools will provide education to about 50,000 children.

Bharti Foundation’s Response

The Satya Bharti School programme aims to make available free, high quality primary and secondary education to poor children in the rural areas of India.  Additionally, the programme generates employment by hiring local talent as teachers and support staff in the school.  The schools are built using the most environmentally sustainable building practices and aims to be a catalyst of social reform in the communuity where it is set up.
