Key Facts

  • There are 1.7 million blind and 16.5 million visually impaired people in Pakistan.
  • Two out of every three Pakistanis cannot afford the average cost of eye treatment.
  • LRBT has treated over 17 million patients and performed 1.7 million operations since 1984.

LRBT’s Response

For the past 24 years, the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust has been providing free, comprehensive eye-care at its 16 hospitals and 39 primary eye care centres.  It is the largest provider of eye care in the country, providing high-quality free services to the poor .  Although cataract continues to be the main focus of these facilities, glaucoma-screening and diabetic retinopathy have been added as they are becoming a growing problem in the country.

Our Support

  • The British Asian Trust’s funds will help LRBT to introduce screening facilities in 6 hospitals, which serve more than 300,000 patients from rural areas annually.
