Former England rugby league star Ikram Butt founded the British Asian Rugby Association and the British Pakistani rugby league team.

Ikram ButtHe was the first South Asian to play either code of international rugby for England. Taking a lead on development work in the UK, India and Pakistan, Ikram Butt is recognised as one of the country’s most influential Asian role models. He is the Executive Chairman of Sporting Change and holds an honorary doctorate in Sport Science from Leeds Metropolitan University. In 2009 he published his autobiography ‘Tries and Prejudice’ described by the Guardian newspaper as fascinating and inspiring. Ikram Butt’s rugby fundraising events on behalf of The Pakistan Recovery Fund following the devastating floods have contributed greatly to the Trust’s efforts to help flood victims rebuild their lives.
