Sarah Ansari Visits Our Women’S Economic Empowerment Work In Pakistan

On a recent trip to Pakistan, one of our key supporters Sarah Ansari paid a special visit to one of the partners of our Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme, which is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (now called the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) as of 2 September 2020).

The Subh-e-Kiran project, which is managed by our partner Aman Foundation, supports women from disadvantaged backgrounds to improve their skills in trades, financial literacy and improve their links to local markets, improving their chances of finding jobs or starting and growing their own businesses.

On her visit, Sarah had the opportunity to observe skills training classes and to interact with the women taking part as well as the instructors and administrators, and took a keen interest in the course curricula and training methodology as well as the student course work that is maintained at the institute.

Reflecting on her visit, Sarah said:

“I was amazed and very impressed by the facilities of where the courses were being provided. Everything was very neat, the courses were up-to-date, and the course principals were very passionate about the training they were providing to these girls, women and some boys.”

“I had the chance to look through the course materials on the hair and beauty courses and was impressed to see the level and quality of detail in them. These girls were not just receiving basic skills but being taught to the standards we would expect to see here. In fact, many of these girls had already started doing some of this work from home, or were about to start their own businesses, heading towards a better future for themselves and their families.”

Encouraging other supporters to visit our work in South Asia, Sarah said: “We give our donations here with the hope that it’s going to the right place. But going over there really gives you the chance to see the impact our donations are making to whole communities and how they are really benefiting from them.”
