The Big Curry Night in round up

The Big Curry Night In took the UK by storm at the end of May earlier this year – raising valuable funds to help feed families across South Asia, supporting independent curry restaurants in the UK and bringing a smile to people’s faces during lockdown.

In just ten days, over £30,000 was raised for our COVID-19 Emergency Appeal. Right now we are distributing the donations, you helped raise, to support families in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka who need urgent funds for food, medicine and other essentials.

Hundreds of your stepped up to the challenge to cook your own curry or to order a curry from your local independent restaurant. We had cook-alongs with celebrity chefs and sport stars, musical curry thanks to The Bollywood Company and all types of curries cooked and enjoyed in households across the UK.

Famous faces, some British Asian Trust’s own ambassadors and others new to us, got in on the act too; Piers Morgan, Jos Buttler, Amy Jackson, Naughty Boy, Sair Khan, Emile Sande, Tom Curran, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Sonali Shah, Isa Guha, Mark Ramprakash, Heather Knight OBE and many, many more!

On launch day we trended on Twitter at number 7 and we featured on national media and radio too!

A big thank you goes out to our headline partners; Cobra Beer, BT, Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) , Curry Life and UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry  (UKBCCI). As well as a thank you to chefs who took part such as Sriram Aylur, Dipna Anand, Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed, Cyrus Todiwala, and Atul Kochhar.

Due to the success of our very first Big Curry Night In, we are drawing up plans for a second Big Curry Night In later in the year. This one promises to be even bigger and better than before – so stay tuned for further updates.
