Richard Hawkes Chief Executive
Richard joined the Trust as our first Chief Executive in September 2015 after having held a range of senior roles in the UK and international not-for-profit sector for more than 20 years.
Prior to that he was Chief Executive of Scope, the disability charity, for five and a half years, leading an organisation with 3,500 staff and a turnover of over £100m. Before that he was International Programmes Director for VSO and Chief Executive of Sense International and has worked for other international organisations, including the United Nations in Vienna. He is also a former National Secretary of the National Union of Students.
Richard has held a number of senior sector and non-executive roles. He has been the elected Chair of BOND, the umbrella body for UK international NGOs, and also of the Care and Support Alliance, a consortium of more than 70 voluntary organisations working together to reform the care system. He has been a member of the BBC Appeals Advisory Committee and a trustee of the sector skills council for the voluntary sector.
