Peace of Mind 2023

An estimated one in four people in Pakistan and Bangladesh will experience mental health issues in their lifetime.

A terrible shortage of specialised mental health services, together with stigma and poor awareness, makes it almost impossible for most people to get the support they need.  More than 90% of those needing treatment will receive nothing, putting them at risk of further health issues and greater poverty.

The British Asian Trust has been working in mental health for many years – increasing services, erasing stigma, building coalitions and advocating for change through our programmes in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

But the need is greater than ever as COVID-19, natural disasters and increasing poverty have meant many people’s mental health has become a lot worse.

With ongoing support from amazing people like you, the British Asian Trust will continue to champion mental health across South Asia and help more people to access support.

But we must act now if we are to ensure that people with mental health issues can always find help when they need it.

Your donation means that, together, we can bring people experiencing mental health issues help and Peace of Mind, giving them hope, dignity, and a future to look forward to.

With your support, our work can make a real difference to millions of lives by destigmatising and raising awareness of mental health, promoting accessible and affordable services for all and building coalitions of support to drive change.

“The more we acknowledge the mental health crisis around us, the easier it will be for people to seek help, to support one another and to pay attention to their own emotions and mental health.”
